Harmonising Colours

Category: Family
Submitted by Alexander

Choosing harmonizing colours is important to people whether they are trying to match clothes for an outing or they are wanting to attract people to their business by advertising it.

What helps is to always wear what's in season e.g. in winter, wearing lighter coloured clothing such as fawns, blues and whites as these colours are more visually appropriate. The spring season is alive and wearing more intense colors such are yellows and greens are appropriate as they are reminiscent of new growth in our environment.

What is popular and in fashion is also a good indication of what to wear in any season because such colours as dark yellow and red maybe out of style at a particular time.
Common sense and practicality helps as does reading magazines for new styles or colours. It is also beneficial to try and find colours that are just you.

Colours can also remind us of things e.g. light pink, brown, and white seem to remind people of Neapolitan ice cream or yellow for Daffodils. If you choose the right colour for the right pattern, you will feel more comfortable in what you are wearing which boosts your self confidence. Such patterns as black and white stripes and lime green and pink may not be suitable for certain occasions so be sensible.

What can assist you to choose colours is the colour wheel. Here the true saying "opposites attract," has great meaning as white and black blended appropriately can look great together. Purple and green can look fashionable together, too. By using complementary colours you can attract attention to an area or feature you are wearing.
By choosing one or more signature colours for a particular outfit and using them boldly can have great affect too.

It is a good idea to use the right colors for your skin tone and colouration. By trying different colors against your skin you can learn which hues look best on you.
Another great place to research is the internet as finding photographs of people, styles, colours, blending etc can be of benefit when you are unsure how certain colours may look on you.

There are some colours which are inappropriate to use together such as Christmas colours like red and green unless of course it is around that time. Avoid grey colours with bright colors such as yellow and a overall a heavy concentration of grey is very depressing. Quite often colours can reflect our moods too e.g. bright and sunny, yellow and vibrant, full of energy and bold red, calm and relaxed, green.

The accessories you wear need to be in fashion as outdated handbags, belts and even jewelery can look odd. Lastly, if in doubt when choosing colours for fashion, business advertising or decorating then obtain a second opinion from a friend or family member as more heads are better than one and never forget nature as she is the perfect harmonizer of colours.
